New Waverly Transportation Receives Platinum Award for  Highway Safety

By Annabelle Blomeley- LP Corporate Communications

You may have heard about the LP facilities with hundreds of thousands, if not years, of hours without a safety incident, or that LP was awarded the 2022 Safest Company Award by the APA – The Engineered Wood Association. Here at LP, safety is at the core of everything we do, and that’s why safety greatness can be found in every corner of the company, including in our trucking operation New Waverly Transportation (NWT).

On Sept. 21, 2023, NWT was presented with a Platinum Award for Highway Safety by the Great West Casualty Company as part of its 2022 National Safety Awards Program.

The Great West Casualty Company, an auto liability insurance partner to NWT, awards motor carriers who have achieved stringent year-end crash results and have demonstrated a commitment to promoting safe driving practices and workplace safety within their company. The Platinum Award is the highest bestowed by Great West Casualty Company and this marks the second year in a row New Waverly Transportation has achieved it.

“It’s a great honor to receive the award again this year,” said New Waverly Transportation Logistics Manager Vince Dove. “Operating safely and in compliance is our No. 1 focus at NWT, and this award is shared with our entire team. Safety is a team effort, and NWT's team works daily to ensure that we stay committed and diligent in our safety efforts, and recognition, such as this validates our efforts.”

To receive the Platinum Award, Great West Casualty Company looks at the number of preventable accidents per million miles driven. To qualify, a carrier will typically need to have one or less preventable Department of Transportation (DOT) accidents.

In 2022, NWT trucks ran 7.7 million miles without a preventable DOT reportable accident. Impressively, that would equate to NWT driving the circumference of the Earth 309 times without a reportable incident!

NWT’s Platinum Award follows NWT’s ever-evolving and robust safety program. This year, the NWT partnered with SmartDrive, a dashcam provider that allows NWT to conduct new levels of training through driver coaching based on real-life videos of driving events.

In addition, the cameras allow NWT drivers to provide law enforcement officers with video footage of accidents, resulting in reduced post-accident litigation. “NWT being presented with the Great West Casualty Company Platinum Award for Highway Safety two consecutive years is truly an honor,” said NWT Safety Manager Dave Jachimski. “Receiving this award validates NWT and LP’s unwavering commitment to our core value of safety. This award also reflects the hard work and dedication of the entire NWT team having faced the challenges of the trucking industry combined with a dedicated focus on safety.”
